About the programme

How do leaders face the uniquely complex challenges presented by planning and delivering major programmes?

The MSc in Major Programme Management helps you develop the understanding, ability and confidence to address these challenges and manage programmes the scale of which can transform a company, a city, or even a country.

Designed for experienced project and programme managers, this part-time programme is rigorous, selective and intellectually challenging, and awards a masters degree from the University of Oxford.

You will attend eight modules of four days each in person at Oxford or online*. During these taught modules you’ll benefit from discussion and networking with faculty and peers from many different countries and industries.

  • Designing and managing successful programmes
  • Major programme risk
  • Systems thinking
  • Governance and stakeholder management
  • Commercial leadership
  • Research methods
  • Managing performance
  • Globalisation and major programmes

On completion of the modules, eight summative assessments and a dissertation, you will be equipped with the skills and knowledge to successfully deliver major programmes.

Join the September 2021 class

It is intended that we will initially deliver the MSc in Major Programme Management in a hybrid delivery model. Hybrid delivery is a coordinated and interactive learning experience in which students join classes either in-person or online.

We will offer this form of hybrid teaching for as long as this might be necessary with global health considerations and travel restrictions in mind. In due course, we would hope and expect all participants to come to Oxford for their classes.

I can quite honestly say that the MSc is one of the best things I have done in my professional career. The ideas generated by collaborating with new colleagues from different industries and different cultures from around the world were invaluable.

Oxford Saïd’s outstanding faculty bring access to world-class research, a wealth of industry experience and the ability to present complex concepts and lead high-level executive debate.

As a woman in programme management, it can sometimes be difficult to find role models, this programme is a really good opportunity to connect with other women who work in similar environments. Often programme management is seen as a male environment, but actually part of what we learn is the value of our own individual styles.

Scholarships for women

Female participants in classroom

We believe that greater team diversity positively affects the outcome of a project.

One of the ways we are showing our support for greater diversity is through scholarships offered to outstanding female candidates, designed to increase the flow of talented women into senior roles in the industry.

Two scholarships will be awarded to candidates from each intake. These will cover 50% of the total programme fee.
